Mar 19th 1860

The future St. Xavier’s opens in the “Glass House at Cavel known as the kalbadevi school”.

Jan 1868

Foundation stone laid at the Esplanade’s Glass Record (Present l.T. Road)

May 17, 1869

School transferred from Cavel to its present location

July 23,1869

The new school St. Xavier’s High School, begins to function

Feb 1870

The sodality of Our Lady started for Catholics

1871

Singing classes started in the school

1877

Silver medal struck

1879

Governor in Council gives a large portion of land which lies around the school building in order to extend its usefulness

1885

Lord Ripon visits the school. Ripon prize established from the surplus of the purse presented to him.

1890

Short Hand classes commence- life span 4 years

1891

The Primary Section transferred to the present St. Xavier’s College building

1893

The first St. Xavier’s cricket XI was started

1900

First school sports held on the grounds of Elphinstone school

1900

St. Xavier’s College which began in St. Xavier’s High School moves to its present location & St. Xaviers Primary Dept. returns to the mother house.

1905

Women’s Lib begins at St. Xavier’s – 4 Lady teachers engaged for the 1st. time – God save St. Xavier’s !!!

1908

Sanskrit begins- may be Persian too

1908

School of Arts Drawing exams- boys set up for the 1st. time- 15 get 1st grade Certificates

1914

School museum Started- from humble origins, it has grown into its present Natural History Museum

26-28 Nov. 1919

Golden Jubilee Celebrations- Lord & Lady Lloyd- Governor- preside

1919

Won Harris shield in Sr. Cricket tournament for the 1st. time

1923

Spanish Jesuits take over Bombay Mission

1923

Public speaking Society founded by Fr. Deniz followed by the establishment of St. Xavier’s Choir under Mr. Paul Frank

1936

Scouting introduced & Provident Fund Started

1936-1937

Magazine & Reading club started – Visual instructions commenced

1937-1938

School magazine started

1938-1939

Harmonica club started by Mr. P.M.Damri

1940

New wing to the east of the old building commenced

Leather classes introduced

St. Xavier’s High School Music Society inaugurated

Several teachers appear for the Rashtrabhasha Pramrambhik examination, Miss Banoo Ghadiali stood first class first

St. Xavier’s appears for the SSC for the first time

Marathi Introduced for the 1st. time in the lower classes

1950

Student Parent Association Started- later re-cherished St. Xavier’s PTA

St. Xavier’s High School Assoc. for past students established

Fr. Richard Pereira- 1st. Indian Jesuit to be appointed Rector & Principal of the school

Photography club started under direction of Fr. J Coll of St. Xavier’s College

Primary has its own Principal- Fr. D. Kealing

Road safety Patrol started in the school

1958-1959

1st. stamp exhibition cum competition held

A pall of gloom hangs on the school- Ground near Liberty Cinema taken over for civil defense

Centenary Celebrations begin

The House System introduced for the first time

Indian music introduced in the Primary on an experimental basis

Mr. H.K.Lala of our School Scout Group made District Commissioner of East Bombay Scouts

Environmental studies Approach to Learning Introduced in Stds. I & II

Sports Fund created

Inter House Hindi/ Marathi Dramatic Competition introduced

Singing contest in the secondary school for the first time

Art craft competition for the 1st. time in stds. 1 to 7

Computer Literacy begins- the age of the blue chip

Inauguration of 125 yrs. Jubilee celebrations. Cardinal Simon Pimenta celebrates the Eucharist

Mr. Justice Madhu Kania Retd. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India presides over the cultural programme

School achieved sent per sent results at SSC examination after gap of 37 yrs

The Governor of Maharashtra, Mr. Mohammed Fazal visited St. Xavier's High School and praised Br. Navarro's museum.

Ms. Juliana Gonsalves – appointed as 1st. Lady Assistant Principal
