Science Club Report  
     
 

The Science Club for the year 2005 – 2006 was formed in the mid of November 2005.  The teacher’s in-charge were Ms. Rupali Rele, Ms. Susan George and Ms. Nirmal Lopes.  The Science Club had a strength of 38 members comprising of students from Standard 5th to 9th.  The Club had a range of activities both Indoor and outdoor.  In keeping with the world-wide concern about climatic change and its effect on mankind, the British Council had launched a global campaign called Zero Carbon City.  As part of this programme, Nature trail was arranged at Conservation Education Centre (CEC), Goregaon.  The visit to the Colaba observatory of the Meteorological Department, conducted for members of Std 8th and 9th gave the boys a chance to see the various gadgets utilized to record the temperature, humidity, rainfall, atmospheric pressure.  Also our students got a chance to observe the results of the tectonic movements of the earth’s crust (Seismograph) in the observatory

 
     
  Students visited the Nehru Planetarium to attend a Chemistry Workshop where the difficult concepts of Chemistry were made easy and interesting for the students in terms of simple explanation and experiments  
     
  Members of the Science Club also visited the AB Ward Science Exhibition held at Anjuman Islam High School and an exhibition organized by the Project Tiger, Sanctuary Magazine at Don Bosco High School, Matunga on the theme of Saving tiger as well as Conservation of Environment.  Two visits were organized to the Nehru Science Centre along with the Nature and the Eco-Consumer Club.  The first visit to the Nehru Science Centre was part of the Science Expo Programme 2005 – 2006 where students attended lectures conducted by the Scientists from various renowned institutions on topics like Solid Waste Management and its health impacts, Ecological Problems and its impact on mankind, etc.  The Second visit to the same venue was to attend exhibition on “Century of Physics”, a visit to the gallery and to see the films involved in the Scientific film Festival.  Apart from these outdoor activities, indoor activities were carried out during the Science week in the month of February 2006.  During this week various activities like science projects, essay competitions, drawing competitions and an inter – house quiz competitions were conducted  
     
  The active participation of the teacher-in-charge and the students of the Science Club and also the support and guidance of the other teaching staff helped in the smooth functioning of the Science Club  

The roots of education are sometimes bitter but the fruits are sweet.
